Applying for a Slovakia Schengen Visa from India
If you want to go to Slovakia, you will need to apply for a visa. It’s easy to apply for India as long as you are:
- A citizen of India
- Have a legal right to live in India
The Embassy of Slovakia processes and makes decisions about visa applications, but you will hand in your application to one of the offices of VFS Global.
Visa applications are usually processed within 15 days, however, it could take as many as 45 days, so you should apply in plenty of time. You can apply up to 6 months in advance, so don’t leave it too late.

Step 1 – Identify visa type

Step 2 – Begin your application
Step 2 is to begin your application. Go to “step 2” and click on the link to download the application form:
On the next page, first, click on the link to “download forms” and then the link for the “new visa application form”:
Save the form to your computer, complete and sign it and then print it out and take it to VFS for submission.
Step 3 – Book an appointment
Making appointments with the embassy, consulate or visa application center is generally free and can be done yourself. There is an additional service charge of Rs 1038 to pay.
Fees are paid in Indian Rupees in cash and are non-refundable.

Step 5 – Visit a visa application center
When you attend VFS Global for your appointment:
- Arrive in time for your appointment (at least 15 minutes ahead). If you miss your appointment on the scheduled day, you will need to book a new appointment after 24 hours from your original appointment date
- You must submit your application in person. You cannot send someone in your place
- Take a printed copy of your visa application, 2D barcoded sheets (2 copies), passport bio page (2 copies), as well as a valid passport or travel document with at least 2 pages that are blank on both sides
- You must take a complete set of all supporting documents (originals and copies)
- If you have not paid your visa fee online, you can pay your fee at the center
- You will also provide biometric information collection. A scanner collects images of all 10 digits, and you will have a photo taken. Without biometrics, your visa application will not be processed
You may also be asked questions about your application. Typical questions include:
- What are you going to do in Slovakia?
- Your intention to return to India is not clear, can you explain?
- Do you have kids?
- Do you have family in Slovakia?

Step 6 – Track your application
If you want to know the stage your application is at, you can track it. Go to “step 6” and click on the link:

Step 7 – Collect your passport
After the embassy has made a decision about your application, you can pick your documents up from VFS Global or have them returned to you by courier.
If you wish to collect your documents, you will need the receipt and some ID. Please check with VFS Global when you can collect them.
The decision will be either:
- Accepted – you will find your visa in your passport
- Rejected – if your application for a visa has been refused, you will receive a letter which will tell you the reason for the rejection and the letter will also explain how to appeal the decision
There are different reasons why an application may get rejected:
- No bank statements – you must prove that you can afford your trip, so you should provide at least 3 months’ bank statements
- Invitation letter not provided – if you are being invited to Slovakia either by an individual or a company, you must provide an invitation letter with specific information (see VFS Global’s website)
- No cover letter – you must provide a cover letter with your application explaining the purpose of your visa to Slovakia
- No proof of means of transport – you should provide proof of how you will get/from Slovakia and transport within Slovakia, e.g., flight reservation and/or proof of car rental/train ticket
Documents Required
It is important that you provide the exact documents for your application. Bear in mind that requirements are different for each type of visa, so it is worth taking the time to understand what you need to provide. There are document checklists on VFS Global’s website which you can refer to. Please note, you must also sign the checklist and submit it as part of your application.
You should also submit photocopies along with original documents.
Documents include:
- Application form – fully completed and signed
- Valid passport – must have been issued within the last 10 years, valid for three months after the scheduled return & include at least two empty pages
- Clear photocopy of the first and the last page of the passport
- For first-time visitors in the Schengen Area it is mandatory to submit the Official Invitation Form verified by the Slovak foreign police department
- Two recent (not older than six months) passport-size photos in color with white background (see full photograph specifications)
- Proof of means of transport – flight reservation of return or round ticket. If you are traveling to several Schengen States, proof of intra-Schengen flight reservation, train itinerary or car rental
- Travel medical insurance valid for all Schengen countries. The insurance has to cover at least 30 000 EUR equivalent, for all risks e. g. accident, illness, medical emergency evacuation etc and cover the duration of the trip
- Proof of lodging – hotel reservations, rental of holiday home or campus residence reservation. If you are staying with a family member/friend, proof of sponsorship and/or private accommodation from the host
- Cover letter explaining the purpose of visit to the Slovak Republic and entire travel plan (itinerary)
- Invitation letter – from the organization stating the purpose, duration and itinerary (for business trips)
- Proof of current occupation – letter from the employer stating a reason for the stay in Slovakia, confirming your identity, the purpose of journey, duration and place where you are staying
- Proof of financial means – bank statements for the last 3 months; Indian Income Tax Return for the last two assessment years. If employed – pay slips for the last 3 months, employment contract, employers statement on approval for holidays. If self-employed – certificate of company registration. If retired – pension statements for the last 3 months or proof of other income
- If the applicant is a minor – birth certificate & passports/ID cards of the parents
- In case of pupils and students – proof of enrolment in school or university
- Certificate of the travel agency confirming the booking of an organised trip or other proof of travel plans
- Marriage certificate – if you are married and cannot provide evidence of marital status in the passport
