Applying for a Luxembourg Schengen Visa from India

To apply for a visa for Luxembourg from India, you must be an Indian citizen or, if you are a non-Indian national, you must have the necessary permit to live in India.

The Embassy of Luxembourg in New Delhi processes visa applications. It is advisable to lodge the application as early as possible and at least 15 calendar days before you plan to travel. Applications can be lodged up to 6 months ahead. You will lodge your application to VFS Global in one of the following cities:

1. Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Chandigarh, Chennai, Cochin, Delhi, Goa, Gurgaon, Hyderabad, Jaipur,    Jalandhar, Kolkata, Mumbai, Pondicherry, Pune and Trivandrum

Step 1 – Identify visa type

Step 3 – Book an appointment

Making appointments with the embassy, consulate or visa application center is generally free and can be done yourself. Step 4 – Pay your fees

1. There is a service charge of 1605 INR ( All VFS’s service charges are inclusive of Goods & Service Tax –SGST @9% and CGST@9%) per application. This is in addition to the visa fee
2. Applicants applying at Jaipur, Gurgaon, Chandigarh, Jalandhar, Ahmedabad, Pune, Goa, Puducherry, Cochin, Trivandrum, Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata, Bangalore and Hyderabad Center need to pay an additional courier charge
3. Optional Courier Service charge at New Delhi – INR 276
4. Courier Service charge applicable at satellite locations – INR 276

The fees are paid in Indian Rupees. They are non-refundable and need to be paid in cash or by debit or credit card

Step 5 – Visit a visa application center

On the day of your appointment:

1. Arrive at least 15 minutes before your scheduled time. If you miss your appointment, you will need to book a new appointment which could delay your trip
2. You must attend your appointment in person
3. Take a printed copy of your visa application, 2D barcoded sheets (2 copies), passport bio page (2 copies), as well as a valid passport or travel document with at least 2 pages that are blank on both sides
4. Take all supporting documentation (originals and copies)
5. At the center, you will also need to submit your fingerprints and photograph. This is known as biometric information collection. A digital finger scanner collects images of all 10 digits, and you will have a digital photo taken. Without biometrics information, your visa application will not be processed

2. Do you know anyone in Luxembourg?

Step 6 – Track your application

Use the reference number on the invoice/receipt issued by VFS Global and your last name and you will be able to track your application:

Step 7 – Collect your passport

The decision will be either:

1. Accepted – you will find your visa attached to one of the pages in your passport
2. Rejected – if your application is rejected, you can appeal the decision
   

There are different reasons why an application may get rejected:

1. Bank statements not provided – you must provide your bank statements so the embassy can see you have enough money and/or you are employed
2. Application form not signed/completed fully – you must ensure your application form is completed in full and signed, so check before submitting it
3. Travel insurance does not cover all Schengen countries – even if Luxembourg is the only Schengen country you are going to, the insurance must cover ALL countries in the Schengen Area
4. Passport is not valid for 3 months after your return to India – your passport MUST be valid for at least 3 months after you return to India. If not, you must get a new one before applying for your visa

Documents Required

Before you start preparing your documents, refer to the checklists on VFS Global’s website. The requirements are different for each type of visa, so you must ensure you don’t miss anything. You should also submit photocopies along with original documents.

Documents include:

1. Application form duly filled, dated and signed by the applicant.
2. Two recent passport-size photographs in colour on white background. One photo should be pasted (not stapled) on the form and the other photo to be given along with the application (see full photograph specifications)
3. National passport valid for at least 3 months beyond the date of return and with at least 2 blank pages available + 1 copy of the data page of the passport
4. Proof of accommodation such as a confirmed hotel booking
5. Complete travel program including itinerary, dates and places to be visited
6. A copy of the confirmed return ticket to India or the confirmation of the reservation
7. Invitation letter from the inviting company in Luxembourg mentioning the purpose of the visit including the complete business program with planned visits and/or meetings to attend
8. Covering letter on a business letterhead from the Indian company stating your position, the length of your service and the purpose of your visit
9. Proof of sufficient financial means to cover all expenses during your stay such as letter from the inviting/employing company + company bank statements for the last three months if the inviting/employing company pays for the cost of traveling; salary slips + status of personal bank account for the last three months; letter from your bank stating credit limit on your credit card; income Tax return for at least 2 years
10. Overseas medical travel insurance valid for all Schengen countries for the whole duration of your stay with a minimum coverage of 30,000 Euros for all risks like accident, urgent medical attention, emergency hospital treatment and repatriation
11. Minors under the age of 18 if traveling alone have to provide written consent certified by public notary of both parents/guardians
12. Authorization to stay (original) and/or letter issued by the Immigration Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Luxembourg (Mandatory for long-term visa)
