In 2021, a total of 24,764 Lithuania Schengen visa applications were received by embassies around the world. 683 (2.8%) were rejected. The Embassy of Lithuania in New Delhi received 174 applications and rejected 23 (13.4%).
Applying for a Lithuania Schengen Visa from India
If you are going to Lithuania, you will need a visa. It’s easy to apply from India as long as you are either a citizen or you are living in India permanently and you have a resident’s permit.
The Embassy of Lithuania in New Delhi makes the decision about whether to grant visas or not, but visa applications are submitted to VFS Global.
Visa applications are processed within 15 days, however, it may take longer, so you must apply at least 15 days before your trip. You can apply up to 6 months before your trip, so don’t leave it too late.
Types of Schengen visas offered at The Embassy of Lithuania in India
Depending on your reason for going to Lithuania, there are different visas you can apply for:
- Schengen visa/short-stay visa (C) – a visa valid for no more than three months (90 days) for tourism, visiting family/friends etc
- National visa (D) shall be issued to those granted a permit of temporary or permanent residence in the Republic of Lithuania. For stays of more than 90 days, typically issued for family reunion, study or employment
- Airport Transit visa (short-stay) – if you are catching a connecting flight on the way to another destination

Step 1 – Identify visa type

Step 2 – Prepare your documents
The first thing you need to do is to complete your application. Go to “step 2” and click on the link for the online application form:
You will be directed to EPM which is the online application system for the Embassy of Lithuania. Click on “new application”:

When you have finished, submit the application, and then print it off and sign. You will need to take this to VFS Global when you hand in your application.
Documents Required
You must provide all the required documents as mentioned in the checklist. You can download the relevant document checklist on VFS Global’s website. You should also submit photocopies along with original documents.
Documents include:
- Completed and signed Schengen visa application form
- One recent passport photo 35×45 in color on a white background (see full photograph specifications)
- A valid travel document – passport (containing at least 2 blank pages, issued within the previous 10 years, valid for at least three months after your return to India).
- Non-Indian nationals residing in India – temporary or permanent residence permit
- Valid health insurance – to cover the duration of stay in the Schengen area. The minimum amount of medical insurance coverage – EUR 30,000
- Invitation letter required to temporarily stay in the Republic of Lithuania electronically submitted through MIGRIS (https://www.migracija.lt/en) or the documents confirming the purpose of visit to Lithuania (hotel booking, tour itinerary etc.)
- Proof of means of transport. Flight reservation of return ticket. If you are traveling to several Schengen States, proof of intra-Schengen flight reservation, train itinerary or car rental
- Proof of lodging. Hotel reservations, rental of holiday home or campus residence reservation. If you intend to stay with a family member or a friend, proof of sponsorship and/or private accommodation from the host
- Proof of financial means – original private bank statement showing movements in the last three months, duly stamped and signed by the bank OR Indian income tax return acknowledgment for the last two assessment years
- Certificate of the travel agency confirming the booking of an organised trip indicating the travel plans
- Marriage certificate
- If you are employed: payslips for the last three months; employment contract; employer’s statement on approval for holidays
- If you are a company owner or self-employed: certificate of registration of the company
- If you are retired: pension statements for the last three months; proof of regular income generated by ownership of property or business
- If the applicant is a minor: written consent certified by public notary; copies of the passport of the parents. If not applicable, birth certificate of the applicant and copies of the ID cards of the parents

Step 3 – Book an appointment
Making appointments with the embassy, consulate or visa application center is generally free and can be done yourself. - Receive an e-mail confirming your appointment, with a confirmation letter attached
Please note, the above procedure is for short-term (Schengen) visas only. If you wish to make an appointment for a long-term (national) visa, they have to be pre-approved by the Embassy. The inviting person/organization has to send an e-mail to consul.in1@urm.lt and indicate the purpose of travel.
Step 4 – Visit a visa application center
On the day of your appointment:
- Arrive at least 15 minutes before your scheduled time. If you miss your appointment on the scheduled day, you will need to book a new appointment after 24 hours from your original appointment date
- You must attend your appointment in person
- Take a printed copy of your visa application, 2D barcoded sheets (2 copies), passport bio page (2 copies), as well as a valid passport or travel document with at least 2 pages that are blank on both sides
- Take all supporting documentation (originals and copies)
- If you haven’t paid your visa fee online, you can pay your fees once you get to the center
- At the center, you will also need to submit your fingerprints and photograph. This is known as biometric information collection. A digital finger scanner collects images of all 10 digits, and you will have a digital photo taken. Without biometrics information, your visa application will not be processed

- Are you going to work in Lithuania?
- When are you returning to India?
- What ties do you have to India?

Step 5 – Track your application
Go to VFS Global’s home page and click on “track your application”:

Use the reference number on the invoice/receipt issued by VFS Global, along with your last name:
Step 6 – Collect your passport
After a decision on your visa application has been made, you can pick up your documents from VFS Global or have your documents returned to you (if offered by VFS) for an additional fee.
When collecting your documents yourself, please take:
- your valid ID
- the receipt issued by VFS Global
The decision will be either:
- Accepted – you will find your visa attached to one of the pages in your passport
- Rejected – if your application is rejected, you can appeal the decision
There are different reasons why an application may get rejected:
- Your passport is not valid – if your passport is not valid in any way (see above requirements), you must get a new one before applying for your visa
- Proof of funds is not included – the embassy must see that you can afford your trip, so you must provide bank statements etc., as proof of financial means
- Travel insurance covers 10,000 Euros – the travel insurance you take out must cover at least 30,000 Euros, so check the details before buying the insurance
- Flight reservation not included – you must show the embassy how you plan to get to the Schengen Area and that you are planning on returning home before the visa expires

The visa fee should be paid in cash or by debit/credit card. Fees are paid in Indian Rupees and they are non-refundable even if your application is denied.
There is a VFS Service charge to pay of Rs. 1659 (inclusive of Goods and Service Tax –SGST @9% and CGST@9%) which can also be paid in cash or by debit/credit card.
COVID REGULATIONS
From 1st MAY 2022, travelers arriving in Lithuania from any country in the world will no longer be subject to any COVID-19 management requirements:
- you will no longer need to take the COVID-19 test before the trip, even if you are not vaccinated or recovered from COVID-19
- you will not need to fill in the questionnaire
- foreigners are not prohibited from entering
